The Grand Final of the InnoFamily Award, an initiative under the Jockey Club SMART Family-Link Project, attracted over 200 students from 14 local tertiary institutions to develop innovative technology ideas aimed at enhancing family well-being in Hong Kong. On 17 May 2025, the 5 teams of finalists presented their project ideas. Ultimately, the team “GingFM” was crowned the Grand prize for their visionary proposal.<\/p>\n
Organised by the Department of Social Work at Hong Kong Baptist University, the InnoFamily Award is not only a competition for tertiary students to learn and showcase their talents, but also a collaborative opportunity with the social welfare sector to promote the advancement of family services in Hong Kong. Over 200 students from 14 tertiary institutions across various disciplines formed teams, with at least one member studying social work, ventured into a 8-month innovative learning journey to better understand family needs, explore cutting-edge technologies, and to develop innovative technology solutions tailored to the specific needs of families.<\/p>\n
Professor Daniel Wong, the Chair Professor of the Department of Social Work at Hong Kong Baptist University and Co-Principal Investigator of the Jockey Club SMART Family-Link Project, shared during the Grand Final that participants came from a diverse range of academic disciplines, such as social science, engineering, information technology, humanities and arts. These students included higher diploma students, undergraduates, and postgraduates, enriching the initiative with a unique blend of diversity and creativity.<\/p>\n
On the Grand Final day, the 5 teams of finalists presented their project ideas and answered questions from a panel of four distinguished judges from different sectors. The panel included Mr Raymond Cheng (Convenor, Advisory Committee of the Jockey Club SMART Family-Link Project, Ms Jasmine Chung (Executive Manager, Charities (Positive Ageing & Elderly Care), The Hong Kong Jockey Club), Ms Karen Shing (Assistant Commissioner (Digital Inclusion and Research), Digital Policy Office) and Ms Dorothy WONG (Project Director (Innovation and Technology for Ageing), The Hong Kong Council of Social Service).<\/p>\n
Mr Raymond Cheng praised the teams for their high-caliber innovative ideas and execution plans. He also appreciated the interdisciplinary collaboration among students from different academic background contributing to the initiative’s vibrancy.<\/p>\n
After a round of deliberations, the judges selected the winners of the InnoFamily Award. Taking home the Championship was “GingFM”, a team of three students from The University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Shue Yan University. The team was crowned the Grand prize for their SEN Parenting Eco System designed to support caregivers of children with special educational needs.<\/p>\n
The First Runner-up was awarded to \u201cDaddy Rescue\u201d for their creative application \u201cDadVenture\u201d which aims to empower first-time fathers through gamified parenting education. The Second Runner-up went to \u201cNeuroAllies\u201d for creating a user-friendly employment support digital platform for young neurodivergent individuals.<\/p>\n
The event also featured the Best Poster Award for three teams with the most on-the-spot votes. The winning teams were “Caring Coder”, “GingFM”, and “Daddy Rescue”.<\/p>\n
At the event, representatives from academic institutions, social welfare leaders, and innovation changemakers also gathered to exchange ideas and inspired one another in the ongoing effort to advance social services in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n
